October brings cooler evenings, autumnal food and drink, and plenty of reasons for customers to head to their local. From International Coffee Day to Halloween, there are plenty of opportunities for pubs and venues to build promotions, events and menu specials around the calendar.
Here are some dates worth putting in the diary.
1 October – International Coffee Day
As the mornings get colder and darker, coffee becomes an increasingly important part of the day. International Coffee Day is a simple opportunity to give hot drinks some extra attention, whether that means a seasonal coffee, coffee-and-cake offer or simply promoting the venue as somewhere to stop for a warming drink.
1 October – World Vegetarian Day
World Vegetarian Day provides an opportunity to put meat-free food choices in the spotlight. Use the day to showcase a particular dish, introduce a limited-time special or create a selection of vegetarian sharing plates.
5–11 October – National Curry Week
Few things are more suited to an autumn pub menu than a warming curry. National Curry Week gives venues an easy reason to put curry centre stage, whether through a dedicated curry night, a new special or dishes inspired by different regional cuisines.
There is also an opportunity to create food-and-drink pairings, matching different beers or drinks with the dishes.
10 October – World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to recognise the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
As important social spaces within their communities, pubs could mark the day by supporting a local charity, hosting a community event or simply creating a welcoming environment where people can meet and connect.
11 October – British Food Fortnight Ends
British Food Fortnight runs from 26 September to 11 October, celebrating British food, farmers and producers.
For pubs, it’s a natural opportunity to highlight British ingredients, local suppliers and seasonal produce. A dedicated British menu, local beer pairing or Sunday roast featuring British produce could all fit the occasion.
17 October – National Pasta Day
Pasta is a natural fit for an autumn menu, and National Pasta Day falls on a Saturday this year.
From a classic pasta dish to a sharing-style Italian menu, it’s an easy opportunity to create a weekend food promotion. World Pasta Day also takes place on 25 October, giving venues another chance to put pasta on the menu later in the month.
19 October – International Gin & Tonic Day
Gin and tonic needs little introduction to the British pub, making this one of the more obvious drinks occasions in October.
Venues could showcase different gins, tonics and garnishes, introduce a G&T flight or create a special serve for the evening. It could also be an opportunity to collaborate with a local distillery.
23 October – Global Champagne Day
Global Champagne Day falls on a Friday, making it well suited to an evening promotion.
A champagne-by-the-glass offer, tasting event or food pairing could turn an otherwise ordinary Friday into something a little more special.
25 October – The clocks go back
Not technically a national day, but definitely a date for the hospitality calendar.
The clocks go back one hour on Sunday 25 October, providing pubs with an extra hour of trading overnight. With Halloween less than a week away, it could also be a good opportunity to promote a late-night event or start building anticipation for the weekend.
31 October – Halloween
Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, making it the standout themed occasion of the month.
There are plenty of ways for venues to get involved, from fancy-dress parties and live entertainment to themed cocktails, Halloween menus and decorations.
Family-friendly pubs could use the afternoon for pumpkin carving, children’s activities or a Halloween-themed menu before switching the atmosphere for an adult-focused evening.
Make the most of October
October offers a broad mix of opportunities for pubs and venues. Food-led businesses can make use of Curry Week, British Food Fortnight and the various pasta occasions, while drinks-led venues have International Coffee Day, Gin & Tonic Day and Global Champagne Day.
And with Halloween falling on a Saturday, there is a major opportunity to finish the month with a bang.
The trick is not to try to celebrate everything. Pick the dates that fit your venue and customers, and use them as a reason to give people something new to come in for.
